It’s a video about all the technological advances that are happening in our world and then poses the question “What does it all mean?”

For me, it all means that we can take a step back and rejoice that, as humans, we were able to create such powerful and amazing machines. In fact, I think it’s a miracle and it’s something that should remind us to take the time to thank God for the gifts that He has given us. As this Sunday comes to a close, I challenge you to ask yourself, “What have I thanked God for this past week?” and then ask what you look forward to thanking God for this week.

Apparently, former President Bill Clinton doesn’t know the difference between an unfertilized egg and a human embryo. Here’s the final quote in the video below:

I think these committees need to make it clear that they are not going to fool with any embryos where there is any possibility, even if it’s somewhat remote, that they could be fertilized and become human beings.


I’m a bit amazed at this. It’s my understanding, along with other sources, that an embryo is a fertilized egg that has begun cell division and is on its way to developing into a grown baby.

It’s disappointing to see things stated this way in the video, especially as part of an interview with an actual doctor. It’s sad, but we continue to move each day away from a basic understanding of the creation of new life. Instead, we have decided to let others exploit that new life for research and monetary gains.

Please take a few minutes and say a prayer for our country, that we may be able to get back onto the right track.

In Toronto, Lia, a 12 year old girl gave a speech challenging the ideas of abortion. The speech was initially put together for a competition, but she was told that, due to the “controversial” nature of her material, she would be disqualified. Our Archdiocese put together a teacher formation day and the keynote speaker talked a great deal about technology in the use of education. One thing that he referenced was a particular YouTube video about how technology should be used in education.

I happen to be really blessed with a few people who passed the video on to me and I am passing it on to you.

Here’s my take (I happen to agree with video): Technology in education is no longer an option, it’s a requirement. Skill sets can no longer be solely determined by standardized testing. I think they have become obsolete. For example, how can a standardized test look at your ability to aggregate, sort and filter information and then put it together in a project that is content-rich? Is it possible to test for that using fill-in bubbles and #2 pencils?

It’s been a few days since I have had an opportunity to blog. This post would have been up earlier but it seems that my web host is having some problems right now, so I’m composing this stuff offline to upload later.

First up is this link, which talks about teens swearing more today. What are your thoughts on this? I know that I have personally called out a lot of people for using terms that are normally not very nice words. It seems like we are becoming desensitized to these words and use them in our everyday language. In fact, I even see people laughing at certain names used when it is totally inappropriate to do so.

Secondly, on the lighter side, check out the video below. If you haven’t run across this video yet, it’s one of the most talked about music videos, especially since the band published the video themselves.

Remember how those textbooks in college were so darned expensive? There’s a new company in town hoping to help out with that. Check out this article from the NYT about Freeload Press. I remember paying around $500 a semester at Marquette for textbooks!

Secondly, let me know your thoughts on this article, about teenagers and coffee. One of the quotes of the year from a girl in my youth group is “I guess we’re just more of a mocha-latte kind of town.” Hmm… If that’s true, why don’t we have a Starbucks somewhere? Maybe someday.

Finally, if you have been surfing YouTube lately, you’ve heard about this girl. I agree with the article. I think she’s a fake and that there’s some viral marketing going around. However, this whole personal video blogging is starting to take off. I think this stuff is going to become more prevalent, given video iPods and a program that I know is being developed to convert YouTube videos to the iPod format.

I love it when I get to check out demonstrations of stuff. So, while reading through some blogs tonight, I came upon this site, which is a mashup of Google video and Google Maps.

The site shows off a video made by Claude Lelouch in 1978 when he put a camera on a Ferrari 278 GTB. What’s cool about it is that someone analyzed exactly where the car was driven and provides a birds-eye view of the trail in a google map as you watch the video. Very cool! My hat is off to the creator.
