A Video for Dads
A good friend of mine came over tonight and had me watch this video. It’s definitely a reminder to me that even though I’m not a dad (yet, deo volente!), we are still witnesses in our own right, be it youth ministry, education or whatever job you currently have. You’re being watched by someone—you have an admirer—and that person looks up to...

This weekend, I am spending some time up at Benedictine Abbey and will be filming my experience the whole weekend. My goal is to assemble a small video to document the life of a monk for those people in my youth group who aren’t familiar with monasticism. In addition, I’m hoping to give it to the Abbey to use as a vocational promotion video. I also plan on putting it up on my site for people to view. If you have a few moments, please pray for the success of the filming and production, that God may speak through the video and turn more hearts toward vocations!

I must have put about 300 miles on my car this weekend! On Friday, I spent much of my time running errands in the neighboring state where I live. It wasn’t too far of a drive, I just had a lot of places to go. The day hit a high for me when I was able to take in the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, which will be in the area for the next 90 days. Given my penchant for wanting to read everything in an exhibit and work slowly through it, I’m glad that I went by myself. I was able to spend about two hours looking at everything, including some original coins found at Qumran, where the scrolls...

I felt like I really wasn’t praying and I was having a hard time with that. In response, he told me to never judge my prayers, because I am praising God with them. Sometimes, I think that God looks at us like the child that made a gift for his parents. The gift, upon examination, is nothing special – the construction is even shoddy by professional standards. However, to the parent, the gift is a sign...

It’s been a week since I’ve put up my last post. It has also been about a week since I’ve been able to get my thoughts together. It has been nice have a few days off from blogging, particularly because of my job. Last week was pretty hard on my emotions, with a lot of stuff happening in a short amount of time. Sometimes, as a youth minister, you see and hear stuff that just smacks you in the face with a heavy dose of reality. Thank God, then, for the Abbey and the Benedictine monks with whom I spent the weekend. If I ever needed a weekend retreat with lots of prayer and...
